- Posted 2/19/2018 10:26:04 AM by David Taylor Blue and Gold Update: We only have 9 scouts signed up so far for the banquet this weekend. We are expecting 115 guests so we still need everyone else to sign-up. We are still in need of donated lasagnas. We have 10 so far but will need close to 20. The banquet is this Saturday, Feb. 24. Set-up begins at 2 p.m. Clean-up will start at 7:30 p.m. Come early or come late just come. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 2/12/2018 7:45:28 PM by David Taylor Just another reminder to PLEASE sign-up for the Pack 350 Blue and Gold Banquet. on Saturday, Feb. 24. 2-7 p.m. at Arblorlawn Methodist Church. A banquet like this takes the entire troop. If the scout cant stay the entire time, come early to set-up or come later to help clean-up. Just come. We need parents, too! As in my last message, I would like to get an adult to learn how to put on these events. This is especially true this time because unfortunately, I now have to be out of town. Mr. Rekieta could use the help. I will have hand-outs at the scout meeting along with directions on the best way to cook the donated lasagnas. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 1/31/2018 7:04:56 PM by David Taylor It is that time of year again where we cater the Blue and Gold Banquet for Pack 350. It will be Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Arborlawn Methodist Church on Hulen Street. The banquet itself is from 5-7 pm. There will be set-up time and clean-up before and after. This is a mandatory troop event. Sign up is now available on line. As in the past, donations of lasagnas will be greatly appreciated. We are also in need of some vegetarian lasagnas. Lastly, I would love a parent or two to assist me in putting on this event. Our success is being able to replace ourselves. I have already put a binder together to make the transition easier. Thanks, Mr. Taylor

- Posted 9/12/2017 11:54:41 AM by Ben Harveson The first TCU football game has come and gone and was a great success. We had strong sales all the way up until halftime...and then it tapered off quickly. That is the way it goes when TCU stomps their opponent 63-0. Thanks to all of you that volunteered for game one! And for those of you that could not make it, do not fret...your opportunity to get in on the fun is just days away! That is right, game two, TCU vs. SMU, the battle for the Iron Skillet is this Saturday at 2:30. Report time is 10:30. Avoid the rush and sign up online today. See you there. Mr. Harveson 817-320-6700

- Posted 2/26/2017 4:10:16 PM by David Taylor I am so proud of all our Scouts! They successfully catered two Blue and Gold Banquets on the same night at two different locations. It is always good to push yourself to see what you can accomplish and our Scouts did it! We received tons of compliments and was great for them to get in front of young Scouts and their parents. We also raised $1,100! So great job all the way around! Mr. Taylor
- Posted 2/22/2017 6:26:20 PM by David Taylor Blue and Gold Update: We have just enough scouts but could use a few more if you have not already signed up. We have enough lasagnas. Thanks! Assignments have been made as to which location scouts and parents are working. Sam Vallee, our SPL, will be in contact with everyone and share their respective venue and reminder of who is bringing a lasagna. Information flyers with cooking instructions for the lasagnas were sent home last night at the scout meeting. If you did not get one, please let me know at davidtaylor5200@att.net and I will send it to you again. As a reminder, this is Class A uniform event with troop hat. Thanks, Mr. Taylor 817-291-8786

- Posted 1/28/2017 1:34:10 PM by David Taylor Hello to all Troop 17 Scouts and Parents! One of our traditions has been to cater Blue and Gold Banquets for local Cub Scout Packs. It is great exposure for our troop and great customer service experience for our scouts. It is always great to "push" oneself and we will be doing this on Saturday, February 25. We have been asked and we have agreed to cater two banquets. One is Pack 350 that we have done for numerous years and the other is for Mr. Roger Smiths son. This is an entire Troop 17 event (scouts and parents)! In addition to labor, we will gladly accept donations of lasagna. More details to come from Mr. Rekieta, your SPL-Sam Vallee, and myself. Thanks. Mr. Taylor

- Posted 12/7/2016 10:12:13 AM by David Taylor Thanks to everyone that braved the cold and rain. It was not a great performance on the field by TCU and it was pretty slow in the stands. The big seller, of course, was hot chocolate followed by hot dogs and pizza. It was not one of our bigger days but we are just shy of $8,000 for the year. Yea! The next game is the Armed Forces Bowl on December 23 with Navy vs La. Tech. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 12/2/2016 6:44:33 PM by David Taylor Thanks to those that have signed up for our chilly TCU game tomorrow. - Posted 8/26/2016 11:36:22 AM by Dan Turner Welcome to TCU 2016! This is the primary fundraiser for Troop 17. Our first game is September 3rd against South Dakota State. It is an evening game - report time is 3pm and game time is 7pm. We have 14 people signed up so far. We will need at least 5 more. Typically, the first game is not one of our busiest but this is a good game to work out all the kinks! We have a few new items in the stand this year as well as some new scouts and adults helping out. Please consider signing up for this game or any of the games in the season online at www.troop17.net. Log in and click register. We are really looking for a strong fundraising this year to support our trip to Scotland next summer! See you soon, Mr. Turner

- Posted 4/24/2016 4:55:56 PM by David Taylor It is about that time again for the Troop 17 U.S. Flag program. Troop 17 along with the Sertoma Foundation place flags through out the Tanglewood neighborhood five times a year (Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.) This is a fund raiser. For every home that signs up, we get a portion of the fee that they pay. In preparation for this season, we will be distributing flyers to all of the homes in our designated area. Flyer distribution will be on Tuesday, May 10. We will utilize the troop bus plus any and all available adults to assist with this endeavor. We really do need all available scouts and parents (to chaperone) to make this successful. Thanks in advance. Mr. Taylor

Not a record day but we did sell over 700 cups of hot chocolate. Thanks to everyone who braved the cold and rain and took time away from their families to spend it with our Troop 17 family. Now a month break until the Armed Forces Bowl on December 29. Thanks to everyone who volunteered this year. The troop is a bit smaller so virtually everyone had to help each game and they did! I am so proud of our scouts and parents! Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 11/20/2015 1:47:43 PM by David Taylor Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Just a quick note before the Thanksgiving Holiday and break starts today (for most). I know most everyone is going out of town or has family coming to town. However, TCU plays Baylor next Friday at 6:30 p.m. (Report time is 2:30 pm). Please look at your schedule and sign-up, if you can. It will be crazy busy! Bring other family members and make it family affair. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 11/16/2015 11:15:19 AM by David Taylor I am told that we had a pretty good game on Saturday. Thanks to Mr. Lyles and Mr. Vallee and all of the other adults and scouts for talking the reigns in the absence of others. Now, onto the our next game this week: Baylor v TCU. Regardless of playoff ramifications, it will be a huge game. It is Friday, November 27 (the Friday of the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend). Game time is 6:30 pm/Report time is 2:30 pm. - Posted 11/11/2015 8:01:56 PM by David Taylor Thanks to those that have already signed up. We have 5 adults and 11 scouts so far. We still need 5+ more scouts. I hate to keep going back to the same well of volunteers, but we need your help especially since Messrs. Turner, Peterson, and Taylor will not be there. Mr. Lyles and Mr. Vallee will be in charge. Game time is at 11 am/Report Time is at 7 am. There is a new shuttle location at the Overton Center (the office complex next to Home Depot on Hulen). I will send out detailed information soon. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 11/9/2015 5:00:38 PM by David Taylor The world has not come to an end with TCUs loss. There is still money to be made. As Mr. Turner alluded to in his email, our next game is this Saturday at 11 am and the report time is 7 am. Messrs. Turner, Peterson, and Taylor will not be at the game. Gadzooks! We only have five signed up so far (3 adults and two scouts). We really need your help again this weekend. I would like to have a full staff as soon as possible. Thanks for your continued support. TCU loves us! Mr. Taylor
- Posted 11/3/2015 10:44:29 AM by David Taylor Hello 17ers! Next TCU game is Saturday, Nov. 14 vs Kansas. Game time has not yet been set. We will need help! Mr. Turner and Mr. Peterson will not be available and I might not be. Enough said for now! Then, TCU v Baylor on Nov. 27 at 6:30 pm (the Friday of the Thanksgiving holiday). Lets continue our strong showing. Mr. Taylor
- Posted 10/30/2015 5:26:53 PM by David Taylor Troop 17 to the rescue! Thanks so much to everyone who volunteered last night on a school night. We were fully staffed and we needed everyone. One other group showed up late and another one was severely late and understaffed. Since we were already set-up and ready to go, TCU asked several of us to help open up the other stand and to help train the new workers. Until these other stands were ready to open, we were basically the only one open on our level. Not only did we benefit from the extra sales but we were also compensated for helping out the other stand. The end result was making $1,479 which is just $10 from our all time high. In addition, if you recall, a very generous anonymous donor agreed to match what we earned last night. Suffice it to say that we had a (John Key) FANTASTIC night! Thanks so much. Mr. Taylor
- Posted 10/28/2015 3:17:18 PM by Dan Turner For those that signed up check your email for parking notes. Drop off is normal location. Gate 4 for entry. 6:30 game time.
- Posted 10/19/2015 6:25:38 PM by David Taylor We really need help on the next TCU game-Thursday, October 29 at 6:30 pm. Blame TV for the day and time. I know it is a school night for most. The report time at 2:30 pm does not help either. If you can help on the front end or the back end, it would be great. Anytime that you can get there will be great. We only have 6 so far and we need at minimum 20. If we do not get enough, we we have to open it up to others. Mr. Taylor

- Posted 9/22/2015 5:54:31 PM by David Taylor Great game vs SMU. TCU won and we earned over $1,100! Thanks to all the scouts and adults that put in a long day and long night. We had to turn a few scouts away at the last second. So everyone needs to sign-up early. Our fixed number is generally 20 scouts and 5 adults. Will definitely need some adult help to work and to manage. Neither Mr. Turner or myself are available for this game.

- Posted 8/24/2015 5:20:15 PM by David Taylor The first TCU game is just a couple of weeks away-Sept. 12. We need a group of 20 scouts/5 adults to properly run our concession stand each game. We need everyone (scouts and adults) to pick one or two games to work to make this another successful year. If we do not get enough people, TCU will fill the spots for us which will mean a lot less money for us. This is a very simple fundraiser compared to selling flower bulbs or popcorn and we make a lot more money. We earned approximately $8,500 last year! All dates are listed on the troop website. Please help. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 8/2/2015 2:49:16 PM by David Taylor Hello, 17ers and TCU Fans! It is almost football season and that means concessions at TCU football games. My son, McCaleb has graduated. I will still be involved, but Mr. Turner and I need your help to manage these games. It is not hard and it is easy if several parents will step up and choose a one or two games. Registration is already available on the troop website. However, below is a list of game dates: Sept. 12 TCU v Stephen F. Austin Sept. 19 TCU v SMU Oct. 3 TCU v Texas Oct. 29 TCU v West Virginia Nov. 14 TCU v Kansas Nov. 27 TCU v Baylor Dec. 29 Armed Forces Bowl TCU is entering the pre-season ranked #2 in the country. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 5/3/2015 10:08:30 AM by David Taylor The other T17 fundraising activity is flag raising in the Tanglewood neighborhood on 5 major holidays with Memorial Day being the first one. In order to insure our success, we deliver flyers to 300 homes in advance of the flag raising season. We will do this on Tuesday, May 5. We will use the bus to transport the scouts to and from Tanglewood. The bus will leave the scout lodge at 7:15 to make certain we get done in time. In addition to our scout staff, we can also use some adults to escort the scouts as they proceed from house to house. With 300 homes, it will take the entire troop to get the job done. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 2/3/2015 9:01:29 PM by David Taylor Troop 17 has once again been chosen to cater the annual Blue and Gold Banquet for Pack 350 which is based out of Arborlawn Methodist Church. This is at least the fourth or fifth year in a row for us to do this. As a reminder, Blue and Gold Banquets are the annual Cub Scout celebration of advancements and achievements. It is a wonderful opportunity for our scouts to "strut our stuff" in front of these young prospective boy scouts as well as their parents. In addition, it is a nice fundraiser for us, too! The banquet is Saturday, February 21 at Arborlawn Methodist Church on South Hulen by the Southwest Library. Set-up will start around 2:30 pm. with the banquet commencing around 5 p.m. We do graciously ask for donation of lasagna. There is a sign-up sheet for scouts and adults and lasagna already on-line. This is a mandatory Troop 17 event! And fun, too! Great opportunity for new scouts and parents to get involved. More information to come. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 1/21/2015 6:01:00 PM by David Taylor Here is the final State of Troop 17 Fundraising Report for TCU! We raised $8,700 which is $150 more than last year! Scouts and adults volunteered 1,200 hours Virtually every scout worked at least one game The patrol attendance competition was won by the Unknown Patrol. It was the closest race ever. The winning patrol will have dinner cooked for them by the OF Patrol at a future campout. Daniel Canariato was the individual winner working all but one game. Thanks to everyone for another fun and successful year. I am looking for a few good people to step up to help manage these games next year. My son will be graduating this spring and I will be moving along. If the games are divided up among several managers, it makes it much easier. Thanks again, Mr.Taylor
- Posted 12/9/2014 4:09:07 PM by David Taylor What started out as a slow day, finished with a bang! Despite TCUs ranking, Iowa State was not a great draw. However, another group did not show up and it was Troop 17 to the rescue! In addition to our normal stand, we also manned a portable grill station. They know that they can depend on us. Well, it resulted in the years highest proceeds totaling over $1,400! We are just $254 from surpassing last years fundraising total of $8,540. One more game at TCU to go! Friday, January 2. Armed Forces Bowl: Houston Cougars v Pittsburgh Panthers at 11 am. I know that it will be the Christmas holidays so that is why I am giving everyone early notice. In addition, I will be out of town, so Mr. Turner will need some help. Thanks to everyone for all of your efforts for making this another successful fundraising year! Mr. Taylor
- Posted 11/25/2014 12:10:23 PM by David Taylor Happy Thanksgiving! Just wanted to put a bug in everyones ear regarding the next TCU game. It is Saturday, December 6. Time is still TBD. This will be the last game for the attendance contest between all of the patrols. It is very tight race so the winner is still up for grabs. Also, there will be a bowl game (hosted by TCU) on January 2nd. Time TBD. I will be out of town so I will need some extra help. Again, thanks to everyone for all that you have done this year. I am extremely proud of all of our young men. Mr. Taylor

- Posted 10/20/2014 4:29:34 PM by David Taylor I am so proud of our scouts. We made $1000 on Saturday and we balanced on $10,000 in sales. We had some first timers too on the registers. Also, I had a customer tell me that she goes out of her way to come to our stand because our scouts smile and greet her every time! No rest for the weary! Another big game this Saturday for our #10 TCU Horned Frogs vs Texas Tech! Game is at 2:30 pm. Also, I will not be at this game. Mr. Turner will need help from scouts and adults! Thanks, Mr. Taylor

Sales per register we won hands down! Thanks to everyone who made this weekend a success. The next games are Oct. 18 vs Oklahoma State and Oct. 25 vs Texas Tech. These should equal this weekend. I will not be present for the Oct. 25 game so we will need some additional adult help. Thanks, Mr. Taylor

Please look at your family schedule and sign-up. Besides being a fundraiser, it is what scouts should do! If everyone signs up, it makes it easier on everyone. It only takes about 10-12 scouts/adults to put up and take down the flags for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 6/17/2014 8:12:10 AM by David Taylor It is TCU Football time again! This is Troop 17s largest fundraiser and we have 7 home dates this year plus the annual bowl game. This years home schedule is highlighted by Oklahoma and Texas Tech. We raised $8,500 last year with just 7 dates. We have 8 this year. We might even top $10,000. As a reminder, we need 20 scouts and 5 adults to successfully run each game. In addition to parents each game, I also need several parents to step up and help manage a game. Managing involves the money and inventory control. For the new parents, this is a great way to get involved. Pair up with someone to help manage and make it easier. Each TCU game is now available to register on-line. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 5/5/2014 8:21:55 AM by David Taylor For many years, Troop 17 has partnered with the Sertoma Foundation to put out U.S. Flags on national holidays in the Tanglewood neighborhood. In addition to being the patriotic thing to do, it also serves as a fundraiser for the troop. In preparation for the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday, the scouts will be distributing flyers during the scout meeting this Tuesday. We have many repeat homeowners plus hopefully new ones as a result of the flyers. Immediately after our flag raising ceremony, the scouts and adults will go to the Tanglewood neighborhood and deliver flyers door to door. We will be using the troop bus plus adults in SUVs. We need all hands on deck. We have nearly 300 homes in our assigned area. Thanks, Mr. Taylor and Dr. Mathe

However, here are the basics: Saturday, March 1 Arborlawn Methodist Church on south Hulen behind the library 5:00 p.m. serve time/2:30 p.m. report time Mandatory troop activity Class A uniform To help defray costs, we ask for donations of lasagnas On-LIne registration is now available. - Posted 12/31/2013 9:44:08 AM by David Taylor It was a wee bit cold but we muddled through. We sold 500 cups of hot chocolate! Thanks to all of you who braved the weather. It was a slow start but we ended up making $800. Some of the other stands did nothing at all. For the year, we exceeded our fundraising total from 2012. Nice Job! Staff Patrol was the attendance competition winner for patrols. Nate Siu and Ben Johnson were the individual winners. They worked every single game. These winners will be recognized at the campout in February. The OF patrol will cook dinner for them. Again, thanks to everyone for a successful year. TCU continues to be impressed with our scouts. I am extremely proud of them, too! Mr. Taylor

- Posted 12/18/2013 1:26:00 PM by David Taylor We have 11 so far for the game on Dec. 30. I need 14 more. Given that I may be a work day for some adults or families are on break, I can use more older scouts if need be. We have an obligation to TCU to run the stand. We only need to make $600 to equal last years total earnings. Please contact me or Atticus Johnson. Thanks, Mr. Taylor

- Posted 11/22/2013 5:44:48 AM by David Taylor As Thanksgiving break approaches and school is getting out, I first want to thank everyone who has volunteered at the TCU games. It has been another extremely successful year not only financially but in the continued development of our young men. It has been a pleasure to see them work hard and represent themselves and the troop so well. We are still in need of six more scouts for the TCU-Baylor game on Saturday, November 30. Game time has still not be set. Hawk and Staff patrols are still neck and neck with Panther right behind. I will be out of town. Mr. Vallee and Mr. Turner will be running things. As soon as the game time is set, I will let everyone know. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 11/12/2013 9:55:19 AM by David Taylor Thanksgiving is right around the corner as well as the TCU-Baylor game on Saturday, Nov. 30. It should be a fantastic game. Thus, we need a lot of people to work the concession stand. As mentioned previously, TCU has asked us to work this extra food stand. To do so, we will need a total of 30 people. We have 13 so far. For our stand alone, we need 25. Though we will also work the Armed Forces Bowl in December, this is the last game to determine the winner amongst the patrols for best attendance. Staff and Hawk are virtually tied. If you have any TCU concession shirts, please return them tonight to the scout meeting. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 11/4/2013 2:35:33 PM by David Taylor Troop 17 to the rescue again! Another group did not show up so they came to us which is no surprise! I sent four older scouts to basically run it by themselves. So what was a slightly slower day was augmented by this extra stand. We made $1,300 (an extra $500 than we would have). To date we are $600 ahead of last year. We only need to make $1,700 over the next two games to equal last year. Next game is Nov 26 against Baylor and it is the Saturday of Thanksgiving Weekend. It will be packed. Please sign up early since many people will be out of town including me. If possible, we might do both stands again. It is ours if we want it. Staff patrol and Hawk patrol are neck and neck with one game to go. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 10/30/2013 8:52:17 AM by David Taylor I know that back to back games are challenging. However, I still need 10 more scouts for Saturdays TCU game. I am good with adults. Report time is 11:30 a.m. Game time is 2:30 p.m. Finish time should be around 7:00 p.m. I am still missing at least 10 TCU concession shirts. I need these desperately for the crew for the next game. Please scour your laundry and get them back to me ASAP. - Posted 10/27/2013 2:05:52 PM by David Taylor Kudos to the Troop 17 members who braved the storm last night at the TCU game!!! They raised $1,400! Due to the rain delay, they did not finish until 1:45 a.m. If you still have a TCU concession shirt, please bring it on Tuesday. The best way to say thanks is to sign-up for the game this weekend and give some of them a break! Next game: Saturday, November 2 Report time: 11:30 am Game time: 2:30 pm Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 10/25/2013 1:08:49 PM by David Taylor We now have plenty of staff for the TCU v Texas game. Thanks. Before you take a breath, the next game is the following weekend-Nov. 2 against West Virginia. Game time is 2:30 p.m./Report Time will be 11:30 a.m. Many scouts and adults have not volunteered one time while others have been at every game. Please remember that this is a Troop 17 activity. Please help out. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 10/18/2013 2:05:00 PM by David Taylor The TCU-Texas game on Oct. 26 is sold out with only standing room only tickets remaining. This will be a huge game. We only have five scouts signed up and no senior scouts or patrol leaders. Some scouts have not worked a single game yet. Troop 17 is a 50% troop. WE need at least 15 more. I would like to have this finished by our next scout meeting on Tuesday. One to two more adults would be great. We have five already. Please remember that report time is 3:30 p.m. and game time is 6:30 p.m. We should be finished by 11 p.m. Staff patrol is still in first place. This has never happened before. - Posted 10/4/2013 12:33:19 PM by David Taylor Begging time! We have 8 signed up for the Texas/OU game 4 scouts and 4 adults) and 9 signed up for TCU game (8 scouts and 1 adult). To ease any minds, we will carpool over to the game in Dallas to make it easier. If we cant get enough in total, then we will have to cancel the Tx/OU game and merge the work force into the TCU game. I do thank those of you that have helped so far. We need at least two more for the Dallas game and 4 adults and 12 scouts for the TCU game. Please look hard at your schedule. Thanks, Mr. Taylor

- Posted 9/29/2013 9:43:24 AM by David Taylor What a great day! Even with the early start and the brief downpour, we made nearly $1,450 with our commission, tips, and a bonus for setting up on Thursday. Thanks to everyone and their hard work. The lines were back to the railing for much of the game. A stand downstairs with 40 people grossed around $16,000 in sales. We grosses nearly $13,000 and our sciouts balanced within just a few dollars. I am so proud of them! Here are the current standings in patrol attendance: Staff. 10 Hawk. 7 F. Arrow. 6 Unknown. 6 Eagle. 4.5 Panther. 2 Please remember the big weekend on October 12 when we have two games. Thanks, Mr. Taylor

- Posted 9/9/2013 2:20:06 PM by David Taylor As a reminder, we keep track of total participation as well as patrol participation. In the past, the patrol with the best over all attendance at the TCU games got to eat dinner with the OF Patrol at the Flour Wars Camp Out in December. Last year, it was a very close competition decided by only 1. Mr. Taylor
- Posted 9/9/2013 2:14:40 PM by David Taylor We are off to a great start! Twenty-six scouts and adults help raise $825. Early games that are hot against a non-league opponent are always tough. We had a great mixture of older scouts and younger ones, too. If you went home with a purple TCU shirt, please wash it and bring it back or just bring it back. The next game is SMU on Sept. 28 which should be a great one as they battle for the Iron Skillet trophy. Please sign-up now. Thanks again to everyone. David Taylor

- Posted 8/29/2013 6:19:33 PM by David Taylor The TCU game on Sat. Sept. 7 is at 11 am. Report time is 8 am. We need at least 12 more scouts and a couple more adults. Atticus Johnson (staff patrol) is in charge of recruitment for the scouts. I would like to always see a good mixture of older and younger scouts each game. TCU wants to see a list of all workers the Wednesday before each game So we need to sign-up early. A map and info sheet will be posted on the troop website and handed out at next weeks meeting. - Posted 8/22/2013 8:24:57 PM by David Taylor TCU football season is here. As mentioned before, Troop 17 is privileged to work one of the select concession stands September 7 is the first game at the TCU stadium. Game time has not yet been set. We need at least 15 scouts and 5 adults to work each and every game. Registration is easy. Go to Troop17.net. Logon to your account and proceed to Registrations. Then select the game that your scout and maybe you can work. This is our biggest fundraiser and it is fun. Please contact me or Noah Mathe if you have questions. Thanks, David Taylor 817-291-8786
- Posted 8/4/2013 6:04:31 PM by David Taylor I have four adults so far that have volunteered to help manage the TCU football games. One or two more would be great. There is an orientation meeting next Thursday, August 15 at 7 p.m. at TCU. I will need all "managers" to be there. Please consider helping. Thanks, David Taylor
- Posted 7/19/2013 1:31:07 PM by David Taylor TCU Football is right around the corner. For some of you that are new to Troop 17, the TCU concession stand is our largest fundraiser by a mile. We raised nearly $10,000 last year in just 7 dates. TCU was so pleased with us that they offered us a stand twice as big as our current one. Unfortunately, we said no because it would require 40 people every game. Aside from always needing scouts and parents to work the concession stand, I need some adults willing to manage along with me. It is not difficult and certainly easier than the Ranger games that we used to do. And I am just putting it out there that my son only has a couple of years left. Hint Hint! There is a concession training meeting on Thursday, August 15 at 7 p.m. at the TCU Stadium. I only need a couple more combined with others that have assisted in the past. The benefit is that "time served" helps offset the cost of summer camp or high adventure trips. Combined, the Taylors offset around $200 last year based upon shifts worked at TCU alone. Thanks, David Taylor
- Posted 4/28/2013 7:23:40 PM by David Taylor Just another reminder of our upcoming banquet on May 6. Patrol leaders and staff will be calling every scout to schedule them for this important event. We will need help before, during, and after the event. Handouts were distributed last week and will be again this week. We will need adult help too, especially early since scouts may still be in school or have late afternoon commitments. I will be at Arborlawn Methodist Church all afternoon cooking. We are still in need of lasagna donations( need a total of 15, have 4 so far) Lasagnas can be dropped off at my house on Sunday, May 5. Please sign-up on-line if you can help or donate a lasagna. Again, please expect a call from a patrol leader. If not, please contact Aiden Smith or Adam Turner. Thanks, Mr. Taylor 817-291-8786
- Posted 4/15/2013 3:00:17 PM by David Taylor May 6th is getting closer. As a reminder, we are catering the Trinity Trails Executive Dinner. Kudos to us! With this being a school day, it will take everyone to help. In addition to the on-line registration, I am going to start a sign-up sheet for times. I need everyone to look at their schedules. We will need some right after school to set-up and serve and other to serve and clean-up. Also, I would like to ask for donations of lasagna again. I am going to need between 12-15. Since this is a work day, I am suggesting/offering that the lasagnas be delivered to me the day before (Sunday, May 5). Since the church has plenty of ovens, I (and hopefully, my staff) will cook them the afternoon of the event. Thanks, Mr. Taylor
- Posted 4/5/2013 11:43:55 AM by David Taylor Please put Monday, May 6 on your busy calendar. Troop 17 has been selected to cater the banquet for the Trinity Trails executive dinner. Trinity Trails is our district within the Longhorn Council. It will be just like a blue and gold banquet except with bigger scouts! Yes, it is a school day so we may need to work in shifts. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. We will need scouts to help before to set-up and afterwards. There will be 80 adults. This will be an excellent opportunity for Troop 17 to strut its stuff in front of our district executives. I am extremely proud about this opportunity. There is already a sign-up sheet on-line. As before, in addition to adult and scout volunteers, we would also like to request donations of lasagna. You can sign-up to work or donate a lasagna on the troop website. Thanks in advance. Mr. Taylor

This is a wonderful opportunity to recruit and we do need to recruit. The banquet is scheduled for Saturday, March 2 around 5 p.m. at the Arborlawn Methodist Church on Hulen. This is a mandatory troop event. As in the past, we will ask for donations of lasagna, though it is not required to do so. - Posted 12/1/2012 9:21:59 PM by David Taylor $1,400. Enough said. This was our take today at the TCU game. This brings our total to almost $7,300 which almost $2,000 more than last year. Thanks to Mr. Vallee, Mr. Turner, and all of the other adults and scouts who worked today. I will announce the winner of the patrol competition once I verify all of those in attendance.

We only have three at the moment. 8-10 is the target number of adults. It would be ideal if your son is already volunteering if you could help, too. My attendance depends on how Nolan Catholic does this weekend in the playoffs. The game time has not yet been established. it should be another full house against Oklahoma. I am missing five concession shirts. I know that Jake Mallison has one and Dr. Marshall has the other. Please check your dirty clothes hamper. Here is the list of sign-ups. It is the holidays But we can make some good money.
- Posted 11/12/2012 2:51:47 PM by David Taylor Thanks to everyone who volunteered on Saturday. We made just over $1,000. The later start and cooler weather affected our normally fantastic water sales. We sold 500 less that last game. This almost sounds like complaining. We are so spoiled with our new stand that we just expect great things. Hawk Patrol is now in 1st place but just one ahead of Eagle. Pedro is still in the hunt. Sign up now! We only need a set number of people, so if you sign up late to help your patrol, you might be out of luck. Thanks, David Taylor

Game time is 6 p.m. Report time is 2 p.m. There are only four people (2 adults and 2 scouts) signed up. We need a total of 25. Please sign-up now. Hawk and Eagle Patrols are in the lead with Pedro right behind.
- Posted 10/29/2012 6:27:36 PM by David Taylor And remember that we have competition among the patrols. The patrol with the highest participation will have dinner cooked for them at the Flour Wars campout in December. Currently, Hawk and Eagle Patrols are tied with Pedro and Unknown right behind them. Last years winners really enjoyed the meal and not having to clean.
- Posted 10/29/2012 6:24:04 PM by David Taylor Just putting a bug in your ear about the next TCU game on November 10 against Kansas State. KState is 2nd in the most recent BCS rankings. The game time has not yet been set but please look at your schedule. I would like to still have some scouts volunteer that have not yet done so. Only 50% of the scouts have worked at least one game. Some have worked all of them. This benefits the troop and the scout. Thanks, David Taylor
- Posted 10/20/2012 7:08:58 PM by David Taylor A new one day record for concessions-$1,550. And $5,100 for the year. We surpassed last years Total and have three more games to go. Thanks to everyone who helped today and the Previous games. Thanks and go Troop 17.

Here are the basics: Report time: 10:30 a.m. Game time: 2:30 p.m. Most of you have shirts. The rest will be handed out at the stadium or we can make arrangements to get them before hand at my house. - Posted 10/12/2012 2:17:08 PM by David Taylor With all that everyone had going on, we just did not have enough to work the game this weekend. Thanks to those that did sign up and to those that tried but could not make it. But dont fret. We have TCU v Texas Tech next weekend. It ought to be a full house. With our additional stand, we need 25 per game. Please look at your schedule and the remaining TCU schedule. Thanks. David Taylor
- Posted 10/11/2012 8:47:07 AM by David Taylor I hate to beg but the prospects of not making $800 to $1,000, will do that to me. I need at least 4-6 more scouts or adults for the Texas/OU game on Saturday in Dallas. Here are the particulars: Depart scout lodge at 6:00 a.m.. We will carpool. Game is at 11 a.m. Should be home no later than 5 p.m. Attire is long black pants, jeans are fine, and a solid white shirt. If you or your son is not going, please consider helping out. Without enough help, I will have to cancel this event. Thanks, David Taylor 817-291-8786
- Posted 10/8/2012 5:20:23 PM by David Taylor Based upon last year, $850 would be a great day. This year we are already spoiled with our recent successes, but we will take it anyway we can get it. Thanks to everyone who braved the chilly weather this past Saturday. We need any scout who is not camping or a willing parent to help this weekend at the Texas/OU game in Dallas. Prior to this year, it has always been our biggest money maker. With good weather and a close game, we will make over $1,000. We have four parents so far. We need 10-12 people total. We need to leave around 6 a.m. from the scout lodge. The game is at 11 a.m. It is during the State Fair, so good food abounds!! The attire is solid white shirt and long black pants. Thanks, David
- Posted 10/3/2012 2:06:59 PM by David Taylor We just need a couple more scouts for Saturdays game. We have 7 adults-Yea! 10:30 a.m. report time. The start of the Texas/OU Game has been set at 11 a.m. We have to be there by 6:45 a.m. Which means that we must leave the scout lodge by 6 a.m. It is a campout weekend, but for those not going, it is a lot of fun and good food and BEVERAGES! Moms and Dads welcome.
- Posted 9/30/2012 10:47:24 AM by David Taylor Thanks to everyone that has signed up for the Iowa State game on Oct. 6. We have 4 adults and 17 scouts. With the additional portable stand, we still need a few more adults and scouts. I would like to get at least two more adults and two more scouts. Also, it is never too early to start recruiting for the Texas/OU game on Oct. 13. The challenge is that this is also a campout weekend. I need at least 10 to run the stand properly. If we have more including Moms, we can get a larger stand (more money) with more people. The great thing is that there is great State Fair Food. It really is a lot of fun.
- Posted 9/24/2012 10:42:44 AM by David Taylor The TCU game v Iowa State on Oct. 6 is at 2:30 p.m. Report time for the concession stand will be 10:30 a.m.
- Posted 9/24/2012 8:21:39 AM by Dan Turner At the request of the church, we have postponed our Garage Sale. We have now put December 8th on the calendar as the new date. You can still send items with your Scouts to any Tuesday meeting and we will store them under the Church until the sale. Please price your items before you send them. This will help a lot in the preparation for the event. Thanks again for supporting our fundraising! Mr. Turner
- Posted 9/23/2012 8:16:19 AM by Dan Turner We had a spectacular game Saturday! 23 parents and Scouts volunteered for the TCU/Virginia concession stands. In addition to our normal stand, we had a freestanding grill stand that made some delicious pulled pork sandwiches and sausage on a stick. Mrs. Mallison, Mrs. Turner, Latham, and Alex sold everything they could get their hands on including cases of water and bottled soft drinks. Back at our normal stand, TCU added two additional registers to our stand because we had the highest sales per register in the entire stadium the previous game. We now have seven registers to serve customers. This week we sold over $11,000 in food and drink! We earned over $1,400 for the Troop! Remember, this money helps fund our ongoing operations and long term camping, including Philmont and our 2014 high adventure trip. Next game is Iowa State on October 6th. We only have 1 person signed up so far. We MUST have at least 20 people to run the stand. We dont know if we will have the additional stand again next game but it takes at least 4 more people to run it. Thanks again to everyone that volunteered including Mr. Vallee who was our stand manager for this game. Mr. Turner
- Posted 9/20/2012 7:25:48 PM by Dan Turner We need some additional assistance for the TCU game this weekend. The Stadium has given us an additional cart outside of our stand. We will need about 5 more Scouts to help. The following Scouts have already volunteered - J. Boswell, B. Johnson, L McGlothlin, A. Peglar, E. Peglar, A. Peterson, C. Peterson, M. Taylor, A. Towle, C. Towle, and A. Turner (the younger one). The following parents have already volunteered - Mr. B. Johnson, Dr. Lee, Mr. Peglar, Mr. Peterson, Mr. Turner and Mr. Valee. Ideally we need several Patrol Leaders to volunteer since the majority of the staff are at school functions or out of town. Please let Mr. Taylor know ASAP if you can attend. Mr. Turner
