As I announced to the scouts, Tuesday, I will be at the Scout Lodge Sunday afternoon (December 26) if any scouts wish to come by and finish the signaling merit badge. It has to be done before New Years and I will be out of town the week after Christmas. All the scouts who took the class completed the first requirement by making a code buzzer. Now all they need to do is prove to me that they can send and receive a short message in morse code and semaphore. Three scouts have completed the requirements and I hope we can finish up for some more. I will be there at 2pm and stay until 3pm or so. If any scout needs to stretch that time one way or the other, please contact me. It only takes a few minutes to complete the requirements. Its fun and easy and just takes a little bit of practice to master the skills enough to communicate. Merry Christmas to all.

Mr. Mallison will be at the Scout Lodge about 6:45 before the meeting Tuesday to work with scouts on the signaling merit badge. One of the requirements is to build a buzzer for sounding out Morse code. A kit of parts (battery included) is $5.00. So bring $5.00 (much cheaper than going to Radio Shack). It is easy to build and only takes a few minutes. A sheet of Semaphore signals and Morse code were passed out at the last meeting. If you didnt get one, they are easily found on the internet. Search for "learning Semaphore" and "learning Morse code". Dont try to learn it all at once. Learn A-G in Semaphore and learn your first name in Morse. Learning how to signal "SOS" (the universal distress signal) is always handy to know also. Extra points will be given for long first names, last names and knowing what SOS stands for.
