Troop 17 is a unit of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) under charter sponsorship of St. Stephen
Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth, Texas. The troop is a member of the Longhorn Council
Trinity Trails District of the BSA. Troop 17 is a boy-run troop; the mission of which is
to offer boys in the community a program designed to accomplish the three aims of scouting:
To build character, foster citizenship, and encourage physical, mental, and spiritual
fitness. These aims are designed to be delivered through a program that stresses the
acquisition of a variety of outdoor skills and also through the pursuit of a structured
program in which meritorious achievement is rewarded through rank advancement. Above all,
the mission of Troop 17 is to ensure that Boy Scouts have fun.

The troop currently has a membership of about 70 boys. Troop 17 is open to all boys who meet the
requirements of the BSA, and who agree to accept, subscribe, and live by the aims and ideals
of the troop. The troop meets every Tuesday evening from 7:30 until 9:00. The troop is
divided up into 5 patrols: Eagle, Flaming Arrow, Hawk, Pedro, and Unknown. There
is one campout per month and the troop owns its own bus, so all boys are taken to and from
the campouts together. The troop sets aside one week each summer for camp and there is a
planned High Adventure also during the summer months. In 2000, the troop traveled to Europe,
in 2003 Red River, New Mexico, in 2005 Belize, and in 2007 Colorado. For 2007, the troop
has trips planned to Philmont and the Bahamas.
